It was beautiful at Cachuma Lake! It was also really windy! On our way up, when we stopped in Santa Barbara, we noticed that it was mighty windy, and by the time we got to our yurt, out on the point in the middle of Lake Cachuma, it was blowing so hard we could hardly move around! The lake was covered with white caps and little waves were breaking on the rocky shore! We got inside and the sign "No Smoking, No Cooking and No Pets" pretty much put the kabosh on firing up our little propane burner to make our Polynesian Pile On, so we headed over to Solvang and the Little Mermaid for a great Danish dinner. It was windy there too, but much less. When we got back, we saw that the neighbors on either side had thrown in the towel and gone home. The wind reached gusts of 55 miles an hour and blew all night, but the yurt held firm, and the next day we had a wonderful day exploring country roads and wandering around Solvang and the surrounding towns. The hills were green, green, green, with lupine and poppies sprinkled everywhere.
When we woke up on Thursday morning, all was quiet, and the wind had finally stopped. We were so excited, we ran out, made cocoa, had a fire in the fire pit, went down the little path to the rocky beach and had a great morning. There were thousands of lady bugs relaxing on the rocks, getting married, and hanging out. (See photo of bugs in among the rocks and on the stick David is holding.) David had fun skipping rocks on the lake, too.
It was really kind of adventurous and very refreshing! I feel like I've had a genuine vacation!

Nice! What a fun trip for you guys!!
I've been to Lake Cachuma before. I really loved it, and even though I didn't catch any fish, save one blue gill, I had a great time. Sounds like a real adventure with that wind.
Kirk's folks had a trailer at Lake Cachuma for many years. He has LOTS of memories fishing with his dad their and having fun in their boat. He shared this blog with his dad and they enjoyed reminiscing.
