My Computer Is Fixed!

The best thing happened to me... well, it started with something kind of awful. My computer died, just about a month ago. We had just published the May/June magazine, so that's really good, but it was going to be time to start the next one, when all of a sudden it was dead - very dead. Computer genius Chris helped me over the phone, guessing that the problem was the power supply unit. He went online, reading things to try that might jump-start it, but all to no avail. He also said that the power unit in this iMac had actually had a recall on it, but that was finished last December. Nuts. I called Biola I.T Dept., where I bought it "as is" and asked them about the computer. I mentioned that it was too bad I hadn't been told about the recall so I could have done something about it. They were sorry... and helpfully looked up the history, showing that the power supply unit had actually been replaced when the computer was almost new. That was probably before the recall, so it was the same troubled unit.

Anyway, Chris suggested that, before buying a new computer, I take mine to the Apple Computer store in Brea and explain the problem and see if they would honor the recall program, even though it had expired. He just wondered if they might do it. So, with nothing to lose, David and I hauled it down to the Genius Bar for our 5:15 appointment on a Friday night, where I explained the situation, and asked if they'd fix it. The genius agreed that it was really dead.  Then he said he'd fix it! I love that they're actually empowered to speak for Apple and do it! He said the problem was also related to the logic board and both needed to be replaced or it would keep happening. So I got a new power supply unit and a new logic board, and they also noticed that the video unit (the screen) needed replacing, so they did that too, all for no charge!!

What a gift and a blessing! Now I'm back in business and trying to catch up on the next magazine. I feel like the Lord gave me a huge gift, and I'm so grateful.
