Last weekend was our 40th Anniversary! We already celebrated in a big way, which I recounted here: http://corktreecottage.blogspot.com/2011/07/in-lap-of-luxury.html but we still did a few things last weekend to remember. On Friday I watched David get a golf lesson, then we headed down to our new favorite beach in San Clemente. I love watching the passenger trains go by, headed to or from San Diego, a few feet from where we're sitting. On Friday, though, there was some amazingly huge surf pounding the beach and lots of seaweed that had been washed up. It was still wonderfully relaxing, though, to lie on the beach and not care about the time.
Saturday, September 3, was our anniversary and we started by going to a meeting at church for Sunday School teachers. We're going to be teaching the 4th-5th grade class every other month. After that we headed to Redondo Beach to watch the UCLA game with David's mom and friend, Jacquie. We stopped at Chipotle for lunch and David got talking to the girl at the cash register, telling her how he liked the integrity of the founder of Chipotle, etc. and asking her if she thought I looked old enough to have been married for 40 years. Well... then she said that our meal was on the house! And it was because they have a policy that if someone is very positive about Chipotle then they comp their meal! Nice!
It looks like UCLA might be better this year... they lost, but only by 4 points and they showed improvement in some areas that David could tell you about.
While we were there Grandma Cox got her invitation to GGs shower in a couple of weeks, and she really thought it was cute. She hopes that she'll be able to make it, if a ride can be worked out!
Sunday morning we were happy to see the beautiful yellow flowers in church that we had put there... see the notice in the bulletin telling the reason for the flowers.
I took a picture during church of the flowers... I think they were really pretty!
After church we went out to the back area for a dedication of the new play area that was designed and largely built by my nephew Philip and his wife Abby! It's full of fun things to do and has lots of space for parents to sit around visiting. A fence and a few more things are still being added.
We brought home the flowers and I pulled out a bunch to make a smaller boquet for the dining room table. We set the remaining boquet out on Beverly Blvd. and it was picked up by someone within about 3 minutes! It's so nice to be able to get rid of stuff by setting it out on our busy street. We also got rid of an old vacuum and a closet shoe holder that way on the same day.
Monday was spent working on Erin's old room, which is now going to turn officially into our second guest room. David has taken over the downstairs middle bedroom as his office, so this room is going to be really cute! We took off the mirror doors of the closet and I'm painting the inside green. The room walls will be painted the same "coffee with a bunch of cream in it" tan as in our kitchen.
I worked so hard scrubbing off the wallpaper border and starting to paint that I was completely limp! David jumped in and cut in all the tan for me so I was able to have the fun of painting the walls on Wednesday, after work. It's lookin' good!
I've always wanted to have artwork from children's books on the walls of this guest room so I went online and found this collage and another one on sale on etsy for $1.85! I was able to make a bunch of 5x7 prints that will go on the walls, and I think it will look so cute.
So... that's our update and now it's Friday again and I'm headed down to Lowe's to look for window treatments for this room! I'm inspired!
