He wasn't as hot on having his picture taken, but that's okay...
A quick shot of Anders, running with Gavin, a boy in his class. There is a beautiful play area and nice thick grass in the back area of the school.
One of the dads led a Friendship Circle type activity, and leads it every Friday morning, so we got to participate. Here's David and Gretchen with Anders.
This is the dad, and the kids are doing various instruments. People call out various things they like about someone or are proud of. They encourage parents to be involved in bringing activities or demonstrations to share with the school, so that's nice. The school was started by a group of people who were homeschooling their kids, so it has a fun, homeschool feel about it.
Walking to class, here's Gretchen and Anders.
Anders was first in line.
Mrs. Dexter is Anders' teacher and there are also two aides in the classroom. Anders is learning so much! It's great to see him blossoming in many different ways.
The school is on Los Virgines Rd., which turns into Malibu Canyon Road, so we decided to take the scenic route home and headed toward the beach through Malibu Canyon.
Wow! It was misty out there, as we neared the beach!
When we got to Malibu we went straight into a parking lot at a local park and David took a nap! I had a good book with me so I read. We stopped at McDonald's on PCH and got a coffee, then, staying as close to the ocean as we could, we headed down through Marina Del Rey by LAX and got onto the 105 freeway for home.
In the meantime, we've also been working on the upstairs bedroom and here's how it looks so far. I have to wait for the paint to cure for a few more days before adding the removable picture holders and decorative stickers, but the hard work is done now and I'm liking how it looks! The bed and little side table in here came from Auntie Bell's bedroom and we used to love to get up into this bed with her in the morning and look through her jewelry box!
We added a nice room-darkening woven wood shade and some little curtains to block our view of the Owen's backyard and vice versa. I was also able to bring the big mirror out of retirement... the one Grandmother gave us for a wedding present. She always felt that every home should have a full-lengh mirror in it so people could see how they look and adjust their hemline if necessary.
In front of the window is a desk/dressing table that David sanded, stained and worked over to make it beautiful again! It came from Auntie Bell's guest room, the one where we stayed when we got to sleep over night. She would tuck us in so tight we couldn't even move! My, what memories.
All the framed artwork pictures are ready to go... not sure how many I'll actually have room for, but they're ready! It feels great to have the closet organized, too. We like getting all the rooms in the house fixed to fit the way we live now, and it makes us feel more at home here! Funny, huh?
We're glad we were able to go to Grandparents' Day today. We love our family so much and each person is a gift. Thank you Lord. :-)
