We're moving right along here, and I'm taking a break from painting inside cabinets to bring you up to date and to ask for your vote on the wall color. I'll show ya' the choices in a minute...
In the meantime, we had a really nice Mother's Day picnic up at Penn Park. It got a little bit cold, but was still nice. Such a great way to avoid the restaurants and just be together. And it's so pretty!
Gretchen and Chris and Anders spent the weekend and that was nice!
Mom and Dad came too, which was lovely!
Shannon Irwin, GG's friend from Briarcrest days, was in town for a Samaratin's Purse conference and was able to work in a visit with Gretchen and Chris, so it started with her joining us on Sunday. Nice!
Here we are, havin' a good day...
And now for the kitchen! This is how it looked when I got home from work yesterday, Thursday! I'm so excited! HK was working all day, getting the right fittings for the old stove and hooking up the sink and dishwasher, plus lots more. He also hooked up the library bathroom sink and is cleaning the motor on the fan light in there right now. I expect him back sometime today.
Here's the floor! Do you like it? It hides dirt and has a light appearance to it, and I think it looks great.
This new doorknob and deadbolt are brushed nickel, but you can't tell. HK rekeyed them to be the same as the side door, so that's very handy.
I've been busy painting the beadboard above the countertop and am nearly finished with that. We need to get some new white switch plates this weekend.
HK also installed my new radio/CD player. Fernando drilled a hole in the bottom of the cabinet so I could run the plug up there, since there is a hidden plug where the old microwave was plugged in.
These are the three colors I'm considering for the walls above the beadboard. Which one do you like? I'm already leaning toward the khaki or the green on the right... This is the wall where I'm going to hang the Scott Moore print, "Milkman's Here!" and I plan to get a simple Craftsman style frame with nice mats for it. I want to include red as one of the mat colors.
We took off the sewing room door and the doors covering this cabinet so the floor could go in and we realize that the cabinet is way better without doors, so we're leaving them off. But that left a super ugly unpainted pressboard cabinet so I've been painting it. I just want to get stuff put away!! I'm going to rethink where I put everything!! The door to the sewing room is going back on, don't worry.
You can see that we're starting to move stuff back into the kitchen, which is wonderful! I'm going to stop painting early this afternoon, get cleaned up (no easy task since I'm covered with paint!) and work on my/our talk for the church tea tomorrow. Mom and I and GG are speaking on "Hospitality" tomorrow and I want to brush up on the ideas we've been working on and talking about. Hopefully it will be helpful and interesting.
Thanks for listening! Have a great weekend!

Make a statement! My vote is for the green on the right. It looks so nice Robin :)
Wow! So nice! I love the green on the right too... I'm all for color. =0)
You might know I would vote for the green on the right! Your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL!!
Mom, the kitchen looks A-MAZING! Wow! I go with the khaki or the green on the right. I think the khaki would blend in well with the colors of everything, and then the picture would really "pop" with the red mat. But the green on the right is very pretty too.
Hi Mom, your kitchen is so beautiful! I love the way the cabinets look, and the granite with the floor. The beadboard is so cute too! My vote is for the green on the right, or the khaki too. It just depends how much color you want. I'm a color person myself...Will and I went to home depot last night and looked at potential colors for the livingroom and kitchen. I'm in the same camp with you, looking at various greens. I realized that its time to embrace my oak colored cabinets, and choose something that compliments them. :-) Congratulations on your new kitchen! I love it.
Thank you all for your input! I do love green, that's why I chose 2 samples, but when I see it in the room, it doesn't look as good as the khaki, but I'm going to improve the khaki, making it look more like a cup of coffee with a bunch of cream in it. Then I think I can add the colored accents for the pop. Nick Takacs said he's busy next week but can work us in on Monday! so HK is here working with David to smooth out the walls a bit and we'll go get the paint tonight. I love progress!!
