September is a great month! Things start up again, there's hope of cooler weather,
it's time to do my fall gardening, and this year it was time to work on
the outside of the house and the fences.
We've been saving up to rebuild all the fencing along Bright Ave. plus both of the front gates,
and September is when it happened. You can see we're no longer using wood posts...
they rot and attract termites! Those brown slats are also a recycled composite material
that termites won't be interested in.
I love having the gates back! And those 4x4's holding up the picket fence are steel! The gate Z frames are also steel... HK did a great job on it all and finished up today. Hooray!
Our front and back doors had taken a beating over the years and looked it, so this was the month to paint them. I went to Home Depot and got color swatches in orange, purple, blue and yellow and this color, "pencil," won. I really like it! The kitchen doors are still going to get one more coat since yellow is a transparent color and Greg Sherman is a perfectionist. That's all right with me!
I love our little back patio with the two comfortable chairs that face this door.
Out in the front yard David has been splitting wood and cut up all the old brown fence for kindling. You can see how we stacked it there on the left. My impatiens have been thriving ever since I figured out that I need to leave the soaker hose trickling all the time. I love how they billow out around the rock border all year round and they thrive in the semi shade of the oak tree.
Peeking into the backyard you can see how things are lookin' now. Philip would have liked us to have a fountain down there at the end for a focal point but a pot with a red geranium is more our speed. Low maintenance is the name of the game for us!
All this fixing up came at a perfect time for a shower for Anni's daughter, Elona! We had a lovely group of ladies here on Sunday, blessing Elona and Chris's baby girl. This will be Anni's first grandbaby! The weather was still hot but with three fans and lots of punch, we did fine.

Mom came to the shower too. Hi, Mom!
Last but not least, David's friend Todd James was cleaning out some old stuff
and found these old school pictures. Aren't they great?
I didn't know him then but I really like those blue eyes and red hair and freckles...
And this is Todd. They're life long friends.
Well, I hope your September was interesting, with some fun thrown in.

LOVE how your fence & gates turned out. Your backyard looks so inviting! The sunflowers & shower are sweet & love David's school picture. He looks a little like a rascal I have in my class. :)
