Christmas Memories...

Today I got all the Christmas decorations out and I was just enjoying thinking about what each one means to me or reminds me of.

This nativity set was made by my sister, Luanne, years ago! At the same time she also made a set for herself, mom and our sister, Gretchen. It's held up so well, partly because she gave it to me in a nice Christmas box, packed in straw. It's been out, in a prominent place, every year since she gave it to me! Thanks, Lu!

One year I used it to tell the story of Christ's birth to a group of Japanese children I was teaching English to. I took out each figure and explained their part in the story before placing it in the straw and I think they really enjoyed it!

David helped me with my "To Do" list this year by wrapping virtually all the gifts, putting the bed rail together so Garrett won't fall out of bed, putting new hooks on the screen doors and buying this tree! It's perfect! I like that it's not too wide... we can't afford to have any one thing take up too much room at Christmas time, since the house will be so filled with family, gifts, chairs, food, and excitement! He's going to put the train around the base of the tree tonight... after watching the football game.

I think most of our ornaments remind me of something or someone and this train ornament is one I bought when we took our big train trip around the USA in 1990.

One year I made tons of clothespin ornaments that were full of cute details! I kept a full set of them but gave a big box full to David and Julie Owens for a wedding gift, and I always wonder if they still use them. We still use ours and I wonder how I had the time to make them!

One year at Pic N' Save I got a whole bunch of these plastic ornaments that have a spot for a picture. We have a whole set of these cute ornaments and I love them! I think I've given each of the girls one of themselves, but I'm not really ready to part with them yet.

David bought me this little tea/coffee cup and saucer ornament last time we were at the Awahnee Hotel in Yosemite. I reminds me of how we like to go have an elegant breakfast there every time we camp in Yosemite. We love the shop there... it's full of interesting things. It's where I got my wonderful black purse about 4 years ago that I use every day and it still looks almost new!

I love this little Christmas tree because it reminds me of Grandmother. When she was in the Health Center at Quaker Gardens I used to decorate her space for Christmas and she and I did this one together. She always liked Christmas and got a few years' worth of pleasure out of this tree. After she passed away I went in to collect her stuff and they'd gathered up all of the trees and stuffed them in bags in their attic! I made them keep taking out bags with little fake trees until I found OUR tree, and here it is! in my kitchen on my new shelf.

This cute little village was a gift from Chris Jensen's mom, Eloise. Since Gretchen and Chris got married, she has joined us for almost every Christmas! I tell her that she belongs to us now... it's nice to accumulate family!

I absolutely love these detailed, glittery advent calendars! I have warm memories of opening some when I was a child, and thankfully you can still buy the same kind. This is one that the girls opened several years ago and I'm getting it out so the grandkids who will be here, Anders, Garrett, and Wyatt, can open them and see what's inside.

This year I created a new SCD legal gingersnap cookie... for Erin, and to put on our website as a Christmas treat for everyone who visits at NoMoreCrohns. I have a bag of them in the freezer!

This four generation picture was taken on Thanksgiving with David, Daddy, and Chris in the back, Anders, me, Mom holding Lars, and Gretchen in front. I love the gathering of family at Thanksgiving and Christmas and can't wait until Erin and Jim and the boys get here on Thursday! I sure do wish we could have Heidi and William and the kids here too, but we plan to see them in March, so that helps!

I think we all got a wonderful gift this year, with the arrival of David Lars Jensen. It reminds us of little Baby Jesus who was born, grew up, and bore our sins on the cross. We plan to take a picture of little boys dressed in makeshift shepherd garb, looking at the little baby. Sweet.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Love, love all of your Christmas ornaments & memories! The fun thing about your little cup & saucer from Yosemite is that I picked the exact same one! We are alike in so many ways. :)

So fun to relive those memories with you. I so wish we could have been with you on Christmas this year. All the family really. We had similar joy looking at all our Christmas decorations. I still have my #12 football player from when I was 8 years old. We have all these "Babies first Christmas shoes for Madeline and Abigail. Hope you are having a blessed day.
