Barnes Babies, Part Two

We've had a very good time babysitting the boys, and we're so happy that Erin and Jim could just get away and be a couple, without the full time parenting to think about. They called and left a message this morning while we were at the park, asking if it was okay to go see a movie before coming back. YES! Last night Wyatt started crying at bedtime, wanting Mama, so I held him and talked to him about them going on a date, to a hotel in the car. They would be gone two nights and come back tomorrow after nap. He said "nap." Then I explained that Grandma and Grandpa would take care of them, and that just calmed him down and he said "Grandma." Both boys understand so much and are very bright, if we don't say so ourselves!

Last night we just hung around in the living room, playing with toys and reading. Wyatt loves to play with his new nativity set and put the angel on top.

Garrett likes to be cozy, like a cat, in front of the fire, running his cars along the hearth.

Here's the book I'm reading aloud, with Wyatt's hand trying to grab it.

Little listener.

This morning we bundled up and went to Central Park in Uptown. I love hearing the church chimes from across the street. It was COLD, but beautiful.

Garrett played with his bulldozer in a sunny spot.

Wyatt really liked the big beads.

Garrett climbed up this dangerous ladder and Wyatt climbed around on the big apparatus.

When it was just too cold to stay out there any longer, I thought it sounded fun to go somewhere cozy and get lunch. I didn't want to go back home and dig around in the fridge looking for something to feed everyone, so we went to an Italian restaurant Uptown that a couple at the park told us about. We parked in the back parking lot and walked around.

Here we are, waiting to order. It was kind of cold in there, unfortunately, but I ordered a pot of tea (which I later spilled on my leg... ouch!).

We split a kids order of spaghetti for the boys and had a massive clean up project at the end of it. We borrowed a wet rag from the kitchen and then just came home, got all their clothes in the washer and tossed the little cleaned up darlings in bed for nap. David is now at the golf course, hitting 60 balls, and I'm catching up on things and tidying up. I plan to curl up and read in a few minutes.

Mater, the tow truck on the table, was watching and commenting on Garrett's eating, and that was a great inspiration to Garrett! Mater only eats gasoline, but he's pretty interested in what boys eat.

We're so glad that we get to be part of our grandkids' lives!! Thank you, family!

Fun pictures! And thank you to all the grandparents out there who give parenting couples a time to refresh! Our kids just spent the night with their grandparents and it was wonderful for us to be able to just spend hours together and talk without being interrupted or overheard! We just got back and I am struggling with having to limit what I say again. It just reminds us what a big job parenting is and how we couldn't do it well without all the support we have from family!

I love the way your blog looks! And what a fun time with the boys. I laughed when I saw the photo of Wyatt eating spaghetti! Only a grandma would order spaghetti for a baby. :-)
